What are you saying?

I saw a comment from David Miliband, in relation to the current Syrian refugee crisis; ‘It’s not about hardball or softball, it’s about cleverball’

There’s a slight problem with this statement: it means precisely sod all.

What’s ‘cleverball’?

Sometimes, whether in person or in their written communications, people can do this in relation to their business; get carried away, and come out with something that – initially – sounds somewhat philosophical, but when you break it down, it’s just nonsense.

Of the two, it’s better to be understood – to simply communicate – than to appear clever.
If you can achieve both, that’s great. If in any doubt though, run with simple / easy to understand: better that than looking like you attempted to sound intelligent… but failed.
